On February 3, 2025, the Symposium on Resonances and Related Topics on the Occasion of Angela Bracco's Farewell from Milano University was held in Bormio. Nine scientists from European and American institutions presented various aspects of research on collective excitations in atomic nuclei, to which Angela Bracco has made fundamental contributions over the forty years of her career. Her journey began with a Master degree from our Department in 1979, followed by a PhD from the University of Manitoba for work conducted at the TRIUMF Laboratory in Vancouver.
Several speakers, who closely collaborated with her, recalled key milestones of her career, during which she gave a major boost to the gamma spectroscopy group in Milan, where she has been a Full Professor since 2002. The symposium also highlighted her outstanding contributions to the organization of nuclear physics at both the national and international levels. In particular, Angela Bracco has served as President of Commission 3 (nuclear physics) and as a member of the Executive Board of INFN, as well as President of NUPECC, the Committee of the European Science Foundation for nuclear physics.
Angela is currently the President of Centro Fermi and of the Italian Physical Society. A few months ago, she was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society, "for outstanding experimental research in the field of nuclear physics, and for remarkable leadership in organizing, managing, and advancing physics on an international dimension."
