Marta Polettini has won the Villi Prize for the best doctoral thesis in Nuclear Physics
Our student Marta Polettini has won the Villi Prize, awarded annually by the CSN3 of the INFN, for the best doctoral thesis in Nuclear Physics defended in 2023. Marta Polettini worked within the GAMMA collaboration on the setup, data collection, and analysis of the first experiments conducted by the HISPEC-DESPEC collaboration after the reopening of the GSI-FAIR facility in Germany.
Specifically, the thesis describes the analysis and interpretation of results from experiments aimed at studying exotic nuclei produced with cross sections of a few nb, of particular interest in astrophysics because they are involved in the final stages of the neutron capture process, known as the r-process, and in the studies of the evolution of nuclear structure away from the stability valley.
The results of the thesis are currently being published.
