On December 8, 2025, Professor Sergio Micheletti passed away. He was a member of our Department of Physics (Full Professor since 1980) and of the INFN Milano Division.
Born in 1932, through his research on nuclear reactions—particularly through innovative measurements aimed at characterizing the electromagnetic properties of nuclei—he contributed decisively to building the well-recognized international reputation of the Nuclear Physics group of our University and INFN Division.
After many years of experimental activity at the Milan Cyclotron, he carried out experiments at several laboratories around the world, also taking an active role in the development of experimental apparatus.
He served as Head of Department from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Senior colleagues remember him for his great passion for research and for his strong commitment to teaching.
He leaves behind a legacy of numerous scientific publications, some of which represent milestones in our understanding of atomic nuclei and their complex phenomenology.
